Meet Your Teacher

I'm Mrs. Ashby. :)

I am a teacher of Physical Science and Civics at a middle school in southern Virginia. I created this blog as an assignment for my Masters of Education program through Virginia Tech.
(Let's go Hokies!)

About Me
I graduated from the College of William and Mary (Go Tribe!) in 2009 with a BS in Biology and a license to teach secondary science education in Virginia. After graduation, I got married and moved to Tennessee where I lived and taught for two years. In Tennessee I taught Biology, Physical Science, Marine Ecology,  and Physics at the high school level and began to pursue an add-on endorsement in Physics when I discovered how much I enjoyed teaching it. After passing the Praxis II: Physics Content Knowledge in July of 2011, I am now certified to teach physics along with my biology/secondary science endorsement. Outside of the classroom, I managed to find time to coach the schools dance team. It was a great experience, and I really enjoyed every minute of my time at KHS.

Although my husband and I liked Tennessee, we missed our families a lot. In the spring of 2011, Robert got a job offer near our hometown in Virginia. It was a great opportunity and we really wanted to be closer to family, so we relocated and I landed my current job teaching 8th grade Physical Science and Civics at a local middle school. With my physics certification complete, my new career goal is to obtain my masters degree in Science Curriculum and Instruction with an additional STEM endorsement.
